Ultram is a pain reliever narcotic which can be used in the sever pain to moderate it. The extended release of Ultram to treat the severe pain is used when the treatment is required all the time.

What is the most important information I should know about Ultram

This medications should not be taken if you are allergic to drugs or alcohol. It can cause seizure in some people but it can occur if you have seizure history, head injury, metabolic disorder or if you are taking medicines of antidepressants, muscles relaxer nausea and vomiting. This medication should be taken as it is prescribed for. There should be only 300 mg of Ultram used in a day. This medication should never be used by the persons who are not prescribed for it.

Before taking Ultram

If you are addicted to drugs or alcohol then you should not take Ultram. You should also not use this medication if you are drugs like narcotic pain medicine, anxiety or depression medicines, street drugs, or alcohol. There may be higher risks of seizure if you are alcohol addicted, head injury, metabolic disorder or if you are taking antidepressants. If you are allergic to this medication or if you have liver disease, kidney problem, mental illness or depression then you should not use this medication. You will need to have special adjustments in your dose in any of these conditions.

Ultram should not be used by pregnant women as it can be harmful to unborn babies. You should also not use this medication if you are a breast feeding a baby. This medication should not be given to children younger than 18 years of age.

How should I take Ultram?

Ultram should be taken as it is prescribed and larger amounts of doses should not be taken. You can take this medication with or without food and it should be taken in the same way each time. There can be some serious problems if you take this medication by inhalation or injection therefore you should swallow its pill. If you are using any other pain relieving medicine then you should tell your doctor. This medicine should never be stopped suddenly rater it should be stopped gradually. You should not change your dose without telling your doctor.

What happens if I miss a dose?

You should take the missed dose when you remember it but if it is almost time for the next dose then you should skip it. You should not take extra medicine in order to make up for the missed dose.

What happens if I overdose?

You should get medical help if you have taken too much medicine as its overdose can be fatal. There can be symptoms of slow heartbeat, light headed feeling, extreme weakness, fainting or coma if you have taken overdose of Ultram.

What should I avoid while taking Ultram?

You should not take alcohol with this medication as it can decrease your breathing if you take it with Ultram. There can be sleepiness if you are taking muscle realxers, sleeping pills, medicines of seizures, narcotic pain medicines or allergy medicines. You should tell your doctor if you have anxiety, depression or any other problems. There can be some side effects of this medication which can cause impair your thinking.

Ultram side effects

You should get emergency medical help if you have allergic reactions like hives, difficulty breathing, and swelling of face, lips and tongue. You should stop taking Ultram and contact your doctor if you have serious side effects like seizure, shallow breathing, and weak pulse. There can be some less serious side effects as well like weakness, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, flushing and blurred vision.

What other drugs will affect Ultram?

There might be problems of seizure if you have taken some other medicines with the Ultram. You should not take Ultram if you are using an MAO inhibitor, an antidepressant, warfarin, carbamazepine, digoxin, and rifampin. You should tell your doctor if you are taking any other medicines including vitamins, minerals and herbal products. You should start new medication only after telling your doctor.
